Unoccupied airport is closer to becoming test site
januari 13th, 2012
The planned test activities at Storuman Airport in Gunnarn are now taking a step forward. The test company ASFT wants to rent part of the airport.
If all goes as planned, the business will start in 2012, says Mikael Fredriksson, project manager for the ”Airport Test Site”. ”Airport Test Site” aims to create opportunities for the establishment of testing operations at Storuman Airport, with a focus on training, testing and development of airport and aircraft equipment.
The company ASFT, Airport Surface Friction Tester AB from Ystad, is one of the first who has shown interest in starting international test and training activities here. They develop friction measurement vehicles and value analysis systems. The company also conducts training of airport personnel. Now ASFT has submitted a request to rent one piece of the property at Gunnarn Airport, of which the municipality Storuman is the owner. The airport holds more potential for testing and training operations, they are trying to attract more test activities, ground-based as well as flight based tests.
