Expansion and renovation at Umeå Airport

Umeå Airport will be expanded and renovated for 61 MSEK. The decision was made yesterday, and the municipality of Umeå will invest in the airport.

The investment includes a reconstruction of arrival and departure halls and a new parking building. An improvement of the terminal system is important since the airport operates more and more international flights. Umeå will be the capital of Culture in 2014, the renovations are particularly desirable due to this honor.

Currently, about one million passengers travel via Umeå Airport every year, but a continuous growth is expected. The renovation work will start fairly soon, when building permits are in place.
