Northern Sweden’s Premier University
Umeå University was founded in 1965 and is Sweden’s fifth oldest university. Today, the university has a strong international and multicultural presence with students, teachers and researchers from all over the world. The main campus has 33,000 students and 4,000 employees. Umeå University has the ambition to be one of Scandinavia’s best environments for study and research to meet the challenges of the ever-increasing global society.
Umeå University has proven itself as an important regional, national and international factor, and today there are courses and study programmes in every academic field. Students come from all over the world to pursue their studies in this northern part of Sweden. The university supports lecturers, researchers and students to realize their business ideas and cooperates with the industries to make research more accessible for the companies.
Umeå University’s Campus Umeå is the main campus and is influenced by the American Campus Model. Consequently, almost all of the courses and programmes that are taught in English take place on Campus Umeå or at the adjacent University Hospital.
Umeå Arts Campus
Umeå Arts Campus is situated on the east side of town by the the Umeå River and is within short walking distance of Campus Umeå. Located here are the Umeå Institute of Design, Umeå Academy of Fine Arts and new Umeå School of Architecture.
Located in Skellefteå, Campus Skellefteå offers a nursing programme, teacher education for pre-school teachers and a programme in mechanical engineering.
Campus Örnsköldsvik offers a master’s programme in sustainable management with instruction in English. Other programmes offered are, the process operator programme and the Spa programme.
